ABOUT

We seek to improve scientific understanding of the physics of ocean circulation, with a focus on small-scale ocean dynamics which are challenging to resolve for traditional observational and computational approaches. These include energetic submesoscale ocean currents with a horizontal length scale of 0.1 - 10 km, boundary layers which are typically tens of meters thick and turbulent mixing events spanning centimeters to meters. We use a combination of theoretical fluid dynamics, numerical modeling and analysis of observations to study these small-scale ocean physics and their dynamic roles in large-scale ocean circulation and climate.

Our research interests include:

Geophysical Fluid Dynamics
Ocean Mixing
Boundary Layer Turbulence
Coastal Oceanography
Southern Ocean Dynamics
Abyssal Ocean Circulation
